Kuvaus:This article aims to contribute to reflections that understand the life choices of intentional communities, ecovillages, ecological settlements, communes, and related projects of neo-rural populations, not as entirely novel phenomena, but as a reconfiguration of collective experiments that have explored alternative ways of living across various historical moments and geographic contexts. We argue that the rise of these initiatives is linked to a process of updating the “utopian desire” in response to the current scenario of civilizational and climate collapse, which has anthropogenic origins. Through a brief overview of specific utopian projects, these reemerging utopian gestures are situated and characterized in order to understand the legacies, particularities, and novelties of their proposals which, despite their limitations and contradictions, continue to challenge the regime of reality, exploring more just and ethical relationships with the wider community of territorial beings, including the more-than-human, and persisting in cultivating a transformative spirit that aspires to participate in the arena of civilizational transitions.
