Description:This article is based on the following central thesis: the economy of Costa Rica suffers from an incoherent and disjointed structural constitution, by virtue of which different parts or sections of the economy have divergent evolutions. But, in addition, and even more importantly, this has negative implications in the field of employment and in the sustainability of public finances, which, in turn, has given rise to responses that, by emphasizing austerity, imply a significant weakening of the social state and, therefore, pernicious social consequences.
