實物特徵:The objective of this article is to explain the significance of human rights in the context of the second decade of the 21st century, with an emphasis on Costa Rica. To do this, two opposing perspectives are presented: individual rights versus the greater good of all people. Subsequently, the historical evolution of the neoliberal project in Costa Rica since the 1980s is analyzed, and how it has widened inequalities in the country and led to social discontent. This has given rise to figures who use practices and narratives of the alternative right or Alt-Right, in order to foster social polarization, political inertia, and a regression in the reach of human rights in the country, while deepening neoliberal policies through Alt-Right discourses and practices that endanger democratic institutions. It is concluded that the greater good of people, the well-being of the most vulnerable groups, and the exercise of human rights are not a priority for this type of government. Therefore, mechanisms are proposed to resist the anti-democratic onslaught.
