Descripción:Effect of cloud forest regeneration on floral morphology and pollination of the heterostylous shrub Palicourea padifolia (Rubiaceae). Studies of the implications of the floral heterostyly on the species are linked to specific populations, none of these take into account the heterostylic traits variations in populations that are found in environments with contrasting natural regeneration status. The purpose of this study was to determine whether differences exist in floral morphology, the pollen stigmatic load and pollen production on heterostylic morphs of Palicourea padifolia in two contrasting areas of natural regeneration status (old secondary forest vs. early regenerating forest). We found that there are differences in the length and width of the perianth between the two morphs and between the two forest areas which can respond to heterosylic floral traits as such and the environmental characteristics of both sites. Stigmatic pollen load did not differ between the morphs, but among the forested areas suggesting that there is an effect of ecological conditions of the ecosystem, which can be described by the number of neighbors and the degree of exposure of plants. Pollen production did not show a clear pattern more pollen or how forest area affects the production. This work highlights the importance of taking into account the ecological peculiarities of each region in order to explain possible patterns of variation in floral traits and pollination in heterostyly species.
