Descripción: | This article argues that one of the effects –and probably the most critical effect- of the hegemonic capitalist economy has been to steal the notion of citizenship from a wide group of people in this region. Based on its essential characteristics, it will be shown that Solidarity Economy is an alternative that can contribute in the retrieval of what has been stolen from wide sectors of societies. Some of its main theoretical contributions in Latin America and the Caribbean will be rediscovered. It is argued that, although Solidarity Economy comes from a new understanding of economy, it is first of all, a political alternative thanks to its implications and potentials. |
