Description: | Introduction: The creation of trails within protected wild areas has largely been done under cultural and social guidelines, rather than the needs of flora and fauna, endemism or carrying capacity. Objective: To propose a trail system that protects the local snails and slugs. Methods: We applied a multivariate evaluation with the ArcGis 10.6 program tool, including distance/cost and Spatial Analyst, to the current trail and to three alternatives. We also surveyed people with key roles in trail use and maintenance. Results: One of the alternatives had the highest scores (33 out of 45, and 7,3 weighted points) while the current trail got only 11 and 1,9 points, respectively. Conclusion: One of the proposed new trails would benefit both humans and the biota of the park. |
