Описание:This essay aims to analyze the performance of Costa Rican education over the last four decades in terms of financing, coverage, equity, and quality; additionally, to identify its main problems and challenges. The analysis is carried out considering the economic, political, and social context, and is organized into two periods: from 1980 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2024. The bibliographic research allows for a critical analysis of what has happened in the Costa Rican education system during the study period. It is concluded that education has not been a priority for the Costa Rican State, based on the economic model adopted during this period, which is reflected in the decline in investment in this field. This fact, along with the diversity in the supply of teacher training and the pandemic, has produced a profound deterioration in Costa Rican education. If this continues, inequalities, social exclusion, poverty, violence, delinquency, drug trafficking, and organized crime will be exacerbated. Given this situation, the proposal is offered for the collective construction of a National Education Project (PEN) to improve Costa Rican education, aimed at promoting the human development we aspire to as a society.
