Descripción:This article clarifies the concepts of open, distance, and digital education, offering an integrative framework to guide decision-making, as it presents current perspectives for understanding the evolution and development of these modalities in technology-mediated contexts. The aim of this literature review is to carry out a conceptual and comparative analysis of open, distance, and online education, with the purpose of integrating them into a unified vision within the construct of open, distance, and digital education (ODDE). The methodology consists of a theoretical review of recent academic literature by key authors and organizations in the field of education and distance education models. The main finding shows that these concepts, although with different origins and approaches, are the result of the natural evolution of distance education, the use of communication technologies and digital tools, as well as the need for greater inclusion, flexibility, and renewal of the model. The main conclusion indicates that the distance modality is moving toward the adoption of different approaches to flexibility and openness, which requires institutions to undertake administrative, curricular, technological, and teaching-practice transformations to respond appropriately to the challenges of contemporary education.
