Description:This research focuses on individuals deprived of liberty for the crime of human trafficking according to Law No. 9095, who present a variety of motivations for their criminal behavior. The objective is to characterize male and female individuals deprived of liberty in Costa Rica for the crime of human trafficking, considering socio-historical conditions, to provide recommendations for institutional care and social reintegration, from the perspective of social work. To achieve this, qualitative research was conducted, which included documentary analysis techniques and the application of semi-structured interviews to the population deprived of liberty for the crime of human trafficking and the officials who attend to them in the Institutional Care Centers (CAI) Vilma Curling Rivera and Complejo Reforma. The study concludes that there are no gender biases in participating in the crime of human trafficking, as both male and female individuals deprived of liberty assumed similar roles in the execution of exploitation, especially since the main goal of the perpetrators was the desire for profit. Finally, it is recommended to implement a specific care axis within the Penitentiary Care Model to attend to this population.
