Descripción: | In 1890, Edwin Romanzo Elmer painted Mourning picture. Seventy-five years later, the poet Adrienne Rich wrote a poem about that painting. Both texts present very different approaches to the experience of death and mourning, which will be analyzed in this essay. For the comparative analysis of the proposed texts, ecphrasis, understood as the verbal depiction of a visual representation, will be used as a conceptual framework. Both texts were analyzed separately starting with the plastic object as a pictorial composition. The poem that Rich writes from this painting is analyzed with tools of literary analysis, such as the structural and stylistic resources present in the structure of the poem, in the dialogical relationship that it establishes with the painting. |
