الوصف:This study is based on the analysis of the needs and risks of transiting migrants who entered through Paso Canoas, the southern border of Costa Rica, in the third quarter of 2022, and the response provided by the Costa Rican government. The main objective is to analyze the needs of transiting migrants and propose improvements in their care; to reflect on various risk situations they experience along their journey and the need for dignified treatment in accordance with human rights. Using a mixed research methodology, scientific sources were consulted, and interviews were conducted with transiting migrants and individuals in direct contact with them. The main findings identify needs that require institutional response and coordination for their addressing and protection. Additionally, illicit activities by organized crime that undermine national security, deficiencies in controls and records, risks to public health, and the need for improvement in the state's response are highlighted. The main conclusions indicate that authorities must provide comprehensive care for transiting migrants, enhance institutional coordination, and strengthen security at the southern border. It is urgent to work on detecting risk situations and vulnerabilities among transiting migrants in Costa Rica, with special attention to minors.
