Descripción:This assay proposes the establishment of a model of teaching competences for the teachers of the Distance State University (UNED) of Costa Rica, based on the pedagogical model of the university and the increase of subjects with virtual component within the academic offer; therefore, the proposed competences are about the skills, procedures and knowledge that teachers must develop to perform adequately in the context of UNED, which includes virtual learning environments. This model was established by comparing five proposals for teaching competences and is constituted by: planning competence, digital teaching competence, communicative competence and facilitation competence. Based on this model, it is recommended to develop evaluation instruments for each teaching competence with specific indicators, in order to identify training needs and improve the performance of university faculty.
