Descripción: | Care work has been considered a socially devalued women´s activity, which remains invisible, and in addition, has social, physical, and psychological implications. In 2019, within the framework of the Study Project focused on the psychosocial components in the quality of life of the elderly population, by the Institute of Social Studies in Population (IDESPO) of the National University of Costa Rica, a study called "Main problems of informal caregivers of the elderly with dependency: the cases of Heredia and Pérez Zeledón" was carried out. In this study, two focus groups were made, one in each county, in order to determine the difficulties faced by these women when undertaking care work. According to the results obtained, among the main problems they faced is the lack of training in techniques for the care of the elderly with dependency, having few people who provided them with spaces for active listening inside or outside the family, and experiencing family conflicts when requesting support to effectuate care work. |
