Περιγραφή:Cattle mineral nutrition as many of the domestic animals had shown important advances which have help the understanding of its metabolic functions, and the effects on health as well as productive performance. Objective: To show the elements that evidence the advances in the understanding of mineral nutrition of cattle, on their metabolic functions, health and productive performance, as well as the technologies applied to improve feed efficiency, in a productive, health and welfare context. Methodology: A literature review was conducted based on a search of scientific publications from different journals and research associations, including the recent editions of the nutrient requirements of dairy cattle of the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM). Results: Research shows that since 1970, technologies have greatly contributed to improve the understanding and importance of mineral supplementation. At the same time, the implementation of new and innovative methodologies, such as the complexation of a mineral with organic molecules, as well as a greater precision in the estimation of the requirement, show improvements on mineral absorption, optimizing the productivity of the animals, while reducing excretions to the environment.
