Diversity of birdlife in five trails of the Metropolitan Natural Park of Panama City, Panama

| Описание: | The avifauna from five trails of the Metropolitan Natural Park of Panama City in the Republic of Panama was monitored using the fixed-radius point count method. The study was carried out from April to June 2018, registering 116 species, equivalent to 11.5% of the country's birds, distributed in 13 orders, 33 families, and 1024 individuals. Among registered bird species, 17 correspond to threatened bird species. The order Passeriformes dominated diversity and abundance, with 76% and 72.4%, respectively. At the family level, Troglodytidae dominated abundance with 14.1%, while Tyrannidae was the most diverse with 25.8%. Thus, we obtained a good representation of the species richness of the five trails studied. In addition, Jaccard's coefficient indicated similar bird species in Camino del Mono Tití, Los Momotides, and El Roble trails; on the contrary, the Los Guayacanes and Dorothy-Wilson trail show a similar species composition. In general, the trails with more complex vegetation cover showed a greater diversity of species. Our results highlight the importance of the Metropolitan Natural Park and the positive impact of the diversity of habitats on the richness of bird species. |
