Market feasibility for sustainable organic production project of guapote (Parachromis Managuensis and P. Dovii) and freshwater clam (Myce-topodidae), in Jiménez de Pococí

| Descripció: | The study was conducted for the creation of a new sustainable organic aquaculture enterprise for new non-traditional products. Among the problems it seeks to tackle are poor quality food, poor management in aquaculture, seeking to save and recycle the water resource and counteract the current excessive maritime exploitation, reforestation with endemic species and / or endangered species and reintroduction of animal species in danger (mainly aquatic), as well as directly contribute to the rescue of elderly in conditions of abandonment of the area, by supporting the Angel of Love Foundation, which carries out this management in the canton. It was determined that there is an unsatisfied demand for guapote and clams in the market areas of interest. A range of prices was established depending on the customers and consumer profile to which the types of presentation are directed and other characteristics of the products to be offered, which are the whole fish, live fish, fillets, whole without head, scaling, without head or tail and gutted, among other presentations that the client wishes. About the offer, there are very few artisanal producers of guapote in the area, who sell one or two specimens a year, as they are engaged in other aquaculture activities, and the guapote has it as an occasional to sell mainly in sodas and restaurants, 3 producers of guapote without any degree of technification or experience in the activity were found near the property of the project, within the canton of Pococí. Therefore, it is considered a new company and without competition in the country and in the area of interest. The research was carried out through tours, field visits and interviews according to information requirements. In addition, the most recognized experts in the country were consulted on the production of guapote and investigations on this fish, in addition to freshwater clams. The guapote sales prices were established according to production costs and willingness to pay, between ₡3.000 and ₡5.000 colones per kg depending on the presentation and quantity requested. The clams between ₡2.500 and ₡4.500 colones per kg depending on the presentation and volume requested. |
