Cultural practices, consumption and interest of students of Sociology School, National University of Costa Rica (2021)

| Descripción: | Introduction: The results of the research carried out by the Heritage, Development and Society Program of the School of Sociology of the National University of Costa Rica are presented. Objective: with the purpose of identifying the cultural practices and interest of the Sociology undergraduate students and in order to create a cultural and academic profile. Method: A quantitative methodology, of a descriptive nature, was used through the structured interview technique, self-applied, by Google form, in adaptation to the health context caused by COVID 19, these interviews were applied between June and July 2021, to 141 undergraduate students. Results: The main result is that the students, in general, has a low cultural consumption, which ranges between casual and sporadic in terms of practices such as: visiting museums, theaters, cinemas, national parks and archeological sites, among others, which is related with the possession of a low cultural capital level, influenced by the fact that both parents mostly have a low educational level that turn into a little cultural capital, as well. Conclusions: Despite the low cultural capital that was identified, the Sociology students express an interest in studying cultural issues, which must be taken advantage of by the School of Sociology, to correct the gaps in access and enjoyment of the cultural field. |
