Descripción:Modifying the Natural Sciences Education program involved a research process into global trends for Natural Sciences Education majors. Strengths and weaknesses of the current program were assessed. A bibliographic review of studies that delved into the socio-historical aspects of science teacher training in Costa Rica, Latin America and worldwide was executed that served as a baseline for an epistemological framework. The nature of scientific knowledge, how it is taught, as well as the subject-object relationship, was defined, thereby, helping to determine the objective of this career path for Natural Sciences Educators. The methodological design was approached from a constructionist epistemological perspective, through surveys, interviews and focus groups with key stakeholders. Basic descriptive statistics were performed for purposes of data analysis. Categories were established a priori with additional categories added a posteriori with regards to historical, philosophical and sociological theories of science, initial teacher training, pedagogy and didactics with graduation requirements based on the KSAVE Science Teaching model.
