Descripción:A study was carried out with dry corn distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS), to evaluate the effect of including different levels of this ingredient in the diet of lactating dairy cows grazing African Star grass, on milk production and its composition. To perform this study, 36 Holstein cows were selected. They were randomly assigned to the following treatments: 0, 22, 32, and 42% of DDGS inclusion in the grain mixture. Highest milk production of 4% FCM, and persistency were obtained at the level of 32% of DDGS in the grain mixture (12.9% DDGS in the total ration). Milk fat percentage showed a decrease with the inclusion of increasing percentages of DDGS in the diet. With respect to the milk protein and lactose, the highest percentages corresponded to 0 and 22% of DDGS; and a significant difference was observed only when the treatment was changed to 32% of DDGS, the value remained constant for the treatment of 42%. The percentage of total solids had a linear decrease when the level of DDGS in the diet was increased. The fat, protein, lactose and total solids yields had the highest values in the control treatment and 32% DDGS. A significant decrease in milk yield components was caused by feeding 42% DDGS in the grain mixture.
