Description:Although Sade initially seems a dissonant name in the stable repertoire of authors that Alain Robbe-Grillet usually mentions at least until the mid-1960s when he builds his portable canon of the novel. The Marquis' work begins to take a central place in the interests of the new novelist. Whether he critically addresses the strictly technical-constructive problems of Sadean fictions or analyzes in quasi-identifying terms his particular erotic imaginary, Robbe-Grillet sees in him a precursor —as well as a master— that allows him not only to provoke a turn in his own work, but also to be the propitious means to reflect on the ethical-political problems underlying the images (whether they are pornographic or artistic).
