Descripción:The aim of this study was to present the main characteristics of Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU), contextualize the principles and rules of action inherent to the game’s phases, and present a hypothetical scenario to apply these concepts. Invasion team sports have action principles and rules that guide the players’ tactical-technical behaviors and help the teacher/coach organize the class or training session. The paradigm shift in team sports teaching (from the technique approach to teaching through games) proposed by game-oriented models such as TGfU was important because it placed the student at the center of the teaching-learning process and promoted knowledge construction in complex contexts. In particular, TGfU is guided by action principles and rules to organize the class and proposes questions geared to develop the players’ decision-making process. Therefore, after reflecting on action principles and rules, the hypothetical scenario proposed in this essay allows the teacher/coach to plan the application of these concepts in accordance with TGfU principles.
