Описание:The main objective of this article is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the Costa Rican education historiography since the colonial period to the present. The analysis shows that research carried out since the early twentieth century went from descriptive and traditional approaches to more sophisticated perspectives by the 1980’s. During this process, the interests of historians diversified when it shifted from aspects focusing on the institutional education system to include issues of social and cultural nature.
