Descrição:The regional economic case study presented here was launched in October 2005 as a joint initiative between the Institute for Economic Research at the University of Costa Rica and its Atlantic Campus, located in Turrialba. The fundamental purpose of the study has been to analyze the causes of the socioeconomic crisis facing the canton and its potential to drive a productive transformation that results in better living conditions for its population. We believe that this study not only makes a significant contribution to regional and local development in Costa Rica, but also highlights the lack of vision and policies at the national government level to promote a genuine regional development strategy for the country.
