Descripción: | Double-shift schooling is a strategy implemented in public middle schools to promote higher access to education for students. The working conditions present in each shift can influence factors such as organizational climate (OC) and the quality of work life (QWL) perceived by teachers. The aim was to determine whether organizational climate is a predictor of quality of work life in middle school teachers according to their work shift. A cross-sectional, observational, comparative, and predictive study was conducted with a non-probabilistic sample of 321 teachers from ten public middle schools. With prior consent obtained, the Organizational Climate Scale by Koy and Decottis (α=.939) and the Quality of Work Life survey “CVT-Gohisalo” (α=.951) were administered. The participants were divided by work shift: morning, afternoon, and both shifts. For each group separately, an analysis of linear regression by successive steps was conducted. The results indicated that for teachers from the morning shift, the final model maintained a predictive value of 41% of the variance in QWL, with the dimensions cohesion, pressure, and support being statistically significant with a high effect size. For the afternoon shift group of participants, the variables pressure and acknowledgment predicted 10.9% of the variance of QWL with a small effect size. In teachers who work both shifts, pressure explains 40.4% of the variance of QWL with a high effect size. It was concluded that each school shift has conditions that promote particular interactions that generate an impact on psychosocial factors. The pressure perceived by teachers who work both shifts has a greater impact on their QWL. |
