Descripción:Older adults have medications at homes to treat diseases that can affect the oral cavity. Objective: To describe the medications according to pharmacological groups that can potentially affect the oral condition of elderly people in Los Guido, Desamparados, in Costa Rica. Method: descriptive cross-sectional study. With voluntary participation of elderly people, personal information is anonymous and confidential. Homes were visited to collect information on medications according to scientific literature that cause side effects at mouth. Drug cases were classified according to pharmacological groups; absolute and relative data are presented by sex and age group. Results: 203 people participated, with a predominance of 70-84 age groups, especially women. The pharmacological groups with the most cases are antihypertensive, lipid-lowering and anticoagulant, ant thrombolytic and antiplatelet drugs. The cases of medicines are consistent with the diseases prevalent in the country. Conclusions: medications at homes can potentially affect the condition of oral health of the elderly who are not being properly cared by the National Health System, therefore, the establishment of strategies in this regard is required.
