Violences Engaged In Community, Family And Institutional Networks Experienced By Women Who Consume Drugs And Alcohol During Their Treatments. In Four Regions Of Chile

| Descripción: | This article presents part of a research study conducted in four regions of Chile on the strategies implemented by technical-professional health teams who work with women participating in Outpatient Alcohol and/or Drug Programs (PAI-M). These women carry a social stigma that generates multiple forms of violence throughout their life trajectories. The aim of this article is to describe the forms of violence interwoven within network, community, family, and institutional practices through the voices of women users of the programs, technical-professional teams, and key actors, in order to propose intervention recommendations. Methodology: This qualitative research, guided by a phenomenological approach, included four group interviews with technical-professional teams, 18 individual interviews with women participating in PAI-M programs across the four regions, and 12 interviews with key institutional stakeholders at national and regional levels. Thematic content analysis was applied using NVivo software. Results: The findings show that a significant number of women experience violence within institutional, community, and family networks—an issue that also affects the technical-professional teams accompanying them. The study concludes that these networks reproduce patterns of structural, cultural, and direct violence, normalized through gender stereotypes associated with women’s problematic substance use. These dynamics affect both the women’s treatment processes and the work of the PAI-M teams. The article recommends developing technical guidelines that ensure respectful, safe, and violence-free experiences, incorporating all network actors to improve coordination and support management. |
