Contributions from the University Communal Work project of the University of Costa Rica: “Promotion of the teaching of food science and technology” during the period 2007-2021

Descripción:Students at the University of Costa Rica, as part of their training process, must carry out community work, they must participate in projects coordinated by professors. The aim of this research is to present the contributions of the project “Promotion of the Teaching of Food Science and Technology”, number TC8, in the period 2007-2021.15 annual reports of the project were reviewed, to identify the type of activities carried out. For one of the activities, a survey was applied to the beneficiaries. And, finally, to kwon about of the experience of the students who participated in TC8, a sample of 30 of their reports was taken. The project has offered activities focus on children, although the adult population has been incorporated. Activities include theater piece and food processing demonstrations, science´s club, and trainings on topics related to food technology. University students who have participated in the science´s club pointed out that it is a very useful activity. Students who did their community work at TC8 point out that the experience allowed them to contribute to the community, learn, develop skills and enjoy the process.
