Descripción:It is shown that measurement of Index of State Density in rural territories of Costa Rica is an effective tool to determine effectiveness of State´s action to increase rural development. Costarican State has larger density and effectiveness in territories near San José, contrary to the peripheral territories. To understand this situation is key to execute effective actions to promote rural development, specially when the goal is to achieve social or cultural change.
