The Impact of Globalization and the Sinicisation of Anglicisms in Hong Kong and Macao Chinese in Entertainment News

| Descrizione: | Entertainment news are common in social life and contains many daily words that allow us to observe the changes in communication. For example, duixiang (对象) and nüpengyou (女朋友) are both terms meaning "girlfriend", but the first word, which comes from Chinese, has been replaced by the second, which is the calque of girlfriend in english; tuokouxiu (脱口秀) and hongpa (轰趴) are loanwords of talk show and home party respectively. In this work we will choose entertainment news in the digital press in Hong Kong and Macao during the same period to study the impact of anglicism in Chinese in synchrony. Both administrative regions are similar islands near to mainland China and share many characteristics in common for one comparative study from a correlative-quantitative perspective. Through the comparison, we have not only found that Hong Kong is more deeply influenced by English, but also that the degree and difficulty of sinicization is only one of the factors affecting the quantitative changes in the various lexical transfers. Although most English-influenced words are nouns and a few verbs and adjectives, there are also prepositions, which are functional words that do not change much in the language. |
