Descripción: | The objective of this work was to determine and analyze the factors that affect maize grain supply in Mexico. An econometric model of simultaneous equations composed of two supply equations, three transmission prices and one identity; during the period from 1980 to 2010. Based on the results of the model, the supply of maize grain in Mexico responds inelastically to changes in the price of maize produced under irrigation and temporary, with elasticities own-price of 0,3025 and 0,2282, changes in input prices that more affect the total offer are pesticide prices, with a cross-price elasticity of -0,4108; changes in the competitive product that more impacted maize supply was sorghum, with a crossprice elasticity of -0,2898, if produced under irrigation and -0,1531 if produced in temporary. The price to the producer of maize grown under irrigation and temporary in Mexico is directly influenced by the wholesale price at a rate of 0,64 and 0,62% for each 1% change in it, while the cost of transport and the international price of maize influence the wholesale price at levels of 0,31 and 0,24% for every unit percentage change in them. |
