| Descripción: | This article examines the reconfiguration of Latin American environmental democracy through two converging paths: the legal recognition of Nature as a rights-bearing subject in Ecuador's Montecristi Constitution, and the political ontology of territory developed by Arturo Escobar from Afro-descendant struggles in the Colombian Pacific. Drawing on Martínez and Acosta (2017) and Escobar (2015), it argues that both routes, constitutional-legal and ethnographic-ontological, share a common source in the relationality of ancestral knowledge, although an unresolved tension persists between the state enforceability of these rights and the communal autonomy that such knowledge presupposes against the transideological extractivism that runs through the region. |
