Easy reading to support the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders: Opening paths in reading and writing processes

Descripción: | Within the field of accessibility in information services as an important feature for equalizing opportunities, new approaches are opening up to meet the needs of children with learning disabilities. This paper presents the results of a proposal for the application of Easy Reading as an information service at the Biblioteca Pública Agapito Rosales Méndez library. This study was conducted during the year 2022-2023 in the community of Moravia and the public educational centers Escuela San Blas de Moravia and Escuela Juan Flores Umaña (Ipís, Guadalupe), which provide learning support in accordance with the plans of the Ministry of Public Education and the implementation of support services for primary academic levels to assist students facing barriers due to neurodevelopmental disorders. Through interviews with teachers and analysis of international bibliographic adaptation standards, as well as the identification of the institutional resources of the Biblioteca Pública Agapito Rosales Méndez, a methodology is established for creating an information service centered on easy reading. This research supports the reading and writing processes, education, care, and integration of students with specific information needs due to cognitive conditions, through the Easy Reading service, interdisciplinary work, and continuous research. |
