Beskrivelse:Food security and sovereignty are affected by supply risks, especially in developing countries, where factors such as prices, availability, and poverty influence people’s nutrition, with local production and international trade playing key roles. Drawing upon data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), an indicator has been developed to quantify the percentage of apparent consumption of dry beans met by local production. This indicator was initially calculated for the year 2022 across all countries worldwide. The analysis also identified key variables that modulate this indicator, including per capita consumption, a country’s export orientation, decisions regarding strategic safety inventories, and a nation’s inclination to adopt an importer-producer role versus a desire for complete food sovereignty. The objective is to compare the degree of food sovereignty specific to dry beans in Costa Rica with that of other nations.
