Descripción:This study examines the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) intothe English for Specific Purposes courses offered by the Escuela deSecretariado Profesionalat the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. Theresearch seeks to learn more about how students and professors haveincluded AI in the teaching and learning practice of the English coursesduring the second academic term of 2025. Adopting a qualitative methodologicalapproach, the study is based on class observations and theadministration of a semi structured interview to students. The study aims toidentify the main tools of AI used by learners, their purposes to use thesetools, and their perceptions in terms of pros and cons to learning English. In the same way, it describes the pedagogical strategies implemented byinstructors in their course planning, mediation, and assessment with AI.One of the main findings reveals that although students are familiar withAI like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot, their primary use is for translationand writing purposes. Another result indicates that professors have takenadvantage of AI in three main areas: to generate ideas, to developdidactic materials, and to reduce the time spent in the construction ofrubrics. Therefore, the study concludes that both participants integrateAI in the learning process; nonetheless, it is necessary to suggest otherpedagogical strategies and platforms that enhance their usage towardsthe improvement of learners’ communicative competence.
