Descripción:In this chapter, the use of digital social networks in the community of university students as a tool for socialization and collaboration is analyzed, specifically in a group of law undergraduate students aged between 17 to 28 years old at the Universidad Veracruzana, in Xalapa region, in an institution-based program. The information is recovered through the survey elaborated in the “Digital divide between students and teachers of the Universidad Veracruzana: Capital Cultural; school pathways and academic performance; and degree of technological appropriation” and “Digital knowledge of university teachers” research projects; the questionnaires and observation proposed in the pilot of the PhD project named “The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) integration in the university curriculum: the case of the Universidad Veracruzana” also are used. The result of the study reveals that most of undergraduate students are using digital social networks at the university mainly for non-academic purposes rather than academics, establishing the access from mobile devices instead of personal computers. Also, we identified in the classroom some cultural change processes from the Network Society defined and described by Van Dijk (2012), the fragmentation associated with cultural content is being the most obvious. Generally it is considered that this work provides elements of analysis and research lines to support studies to understand the relationship between the use of ICT, university undergraduates and the teaching practices of university professors.
