Descripción:This article presents a proposal of what kind of history to teach in El Salvador within the framework of the bicentenary of the country’s independence. In order to do that, the author uses a threefold approach. The first aspect informs about the main developments of the program, the contents and resources available in the education system to teach history. The second aspect refers to some of the results of a survey with different members of the educational community regarding what kind of history to teach, what methodologies to use and what values are at the base. Lastly, the author presents a personal and professional proposal using the socioformative competences theoretical framework on what kind of history to teach, using an Educational Toolbox named “200 years in your hands” for junior and senior high school students.
