| Descripció: | This essay offers a critical reflection on veganism as an ethical stance toward the exploitation of non-human animals, who are reduced to the status of property. Its aim is to question speciesism as the basis for this status and to show that veganism is the only ethical solution, since it represents the moral minimum needed to eradicate this form of domination. To this end, the essay draws on a documentary review of current regulations and develops a critical hermeneutic analysis of the legislation in order to interpret the information gathered. The main finding is that, in Honduras and worldwide, animal welfare laws do not seek to eliminate exploitation, but rather to regulate it. In this way, they create a legal framework that functions as a form of institutionalized violence by rendering animals invisible and perpetuating their use as economic and cultural resources. The conclusion argues that genuine ethical and legal progress depends on abolishing animals’ property status and recognizing them as subjects of rights. Only then can society overcome the ethical inconsistency of proclaiming justice while legitimizing animal slavery. |
