תיאור:This essay aims to show how public environmental management in Costa Rica exhibits a speciesist bias, as it is grounded in the international model of sustainable development, a model that has become aligned with the interests of green capitalism and its anthropocentric outlook. As an example of this bias, the essay examines, from an ecocentric perspective, the 2015 «Low-Carbon Livestock Strategy» and the 2022 «National Sustainable Livestock Policy», two oxymoronic terms used to describe mitigation and compensation measures for one of the most environmentally harmful economic activities in Costa Rica and worldwide. This activity not only reduces other sentient beings to their utilitarian value as commodities, but also perpetuates the supremacist view of the human species over other species. In addition, the essay suggests how public environmental management in Costa Rica can incorporate an anti-speciesist ontological shift by adopting an ecocentric perspective.
