It was the product of one of the stages of an exploratory qualitative research Comprensión lectora y producción escrita en la población estudiantil de Trabajo Social carried out by one professor from Social Work career and the other from Philology career, in the period of 2015 to 2017. With diverse techniques of information gathering and analysis, it is possible to demonstrate that academic literacy is determined by the particular characteristics of the students, their cultural capital and their study habits, as well as by the way in which the teaching population introduces this population into the culture academic of its area of knowledge
