Descripción:The connection that exists between the linguistic change and the sociocultural change has been recognized by different linguistic currents. In this work the dinamic observed is presented in the forms of treatment toward the couple and the most frequent lexical-semantic changes. The corpus was compiled by speakers of various different age groups in the metropolitan area in central Costa Rica. The stages of a couple’s relation ship, although defined by traditional vocabulary (friendship, courtship, engagement, marriage) have meanings and behaviors that change between generations that evidence the mechanisms utilized by the re-designation of terms. The lexicon is the stage in we see the transformations of society which reflect attitudes and social practices, many of which threaten distinct sectors of the population, as observed in this paper.
