Description:An α-particle sensor based on a PIN diode and an optimized electronic circuit is proposed for future 222 Rn gas measurements in geophysical applications. The system is designed to resolve the α peaks of a triple-α calibration source composed of 239 Pu, 241 Am, and 244 Cm, which was used for experimental validation. The laboratory setup employed for sensor characterization and circuit optimization is described, covering the full workflow from numerical simulation to experimental verification. The results demonstrate the technical feasibility of the proposed sensor, whose design is inspired by field-proven radon probes previously operated under challenging environmental conditions, such as high humidity, saline or acidic environments, as well as looking forward to use 3,3 V technology.
