Descripción:The objective ofthis technical note is to introduce a low-cost bubble manometerto measure root pressure in different environments, where it is a major component of several physio-pathologicaldisorders of crop plants. The concept and mechanisms ofroot pressure are explained, its putative functions, and itsassociation with various physiological disorders such as fruitand stem cracking, leaf infi ltration and burst, guttation andplant surface wetness, and the development of several preandpost-harvest diseases. The construction, installation andfunctioning of bubble manometers to measure root pressureis described. The importance of controlling root pressureas part of the root-zone management strategy is discussed, which includes interventions the physical, chemical, andbiological properties of soil and substrates, especially nearand around the rhizosphere, and of the aerial environmentof crop plants.
