| Descripció: | In this article, the author endeavors to define and describe different types of authentic materials used to teach foreign languages. Then, a few proposals regarding the use of these materials are analyzed. A set of criteria to select authentic spoken or written materials for lesson planning is also proposed with the aim of informing teachers’ decision-making and contributing to their reflection on their teaching practices. Making appropriate pedagogical decisions proves to be key when trying to put together a foreign language course that is coherent, motivating and effective. Finally, recommendations for the use of authentic materials are provided. |
