Descripción:176 one-day-old female Single Comb White Leghorn chicks were distributed in a complete randomized design to determine the apropiate level of dehydrated coffee pulp (DCP) in the diet of laying hens during the starting (8 weeks) and growing (12 weeks) periods. The levels of (DCP) used were 0, 6, 9 and 12% of the diet and feed intake (g/bird/day), weight gain (g/bird/day) and feed conversion were evaluated in both periods.Feed intake showed a statistically similar behavior (P≥0,05) in the first period, but in the second there were significative statistical differences (P≤0,05) between the levels 0, 6, 9% DCP and 12%. The general tendency was to increase the feed intake as the level of DCP was greater in the diet. There were significative statistical differences (P≤0,05) in weight gain during the starting period between the level 0 DCP and the others. In the growing period there were no significative differences. In this case, the tendency shows a decrease in weight gain as the level of DCP in the diet increases. In both periods, feed conversion increased as the level of DCP was larger. The levels 0 and 6% DCP were statistically different (P≤0,05) of levels 9 and 12% DCP in the starting period while in the growing period the difference were between the level 12% and all the others. There was mortality only during the starting period, increasing as the level of DCP increased. The values were 4.55, 7.14, 13.98 and 21.28% for the 0, 6, 9 and 12% levels of DCP respectively. It is recommended the use of a maximum level of 6% DCP in the starting diet and 9% in the growing period.
