Description:This study is a regional research project of the Central American and Caribbean Early Literacy Network (RedLEI) presents the analysis of early childhood education policies in Costa Rica and their implementation compared to best practices documented in the literature during the last decade. The research was conducted with a common qualitative approach based on policy documents and reports on implementation, as well as interviews with stakeholders. The study concludes that Costa Rica has made significant progress in early childhood education, especially in terms of access; however, it still faces significant challenges to achieving quality education.
